While summer may be coming to an end in other parts of the world, things are still heating up here in Fort Lauderdale!  The first week of October is packed with an array of exciting events featuring fine dining, charitable running, and brilliant musical performances, to name just a few!

Now in its 7th year, “Dine Out Lauderdale” is a six-week celebration of the area's top restaurants, chefs and cuisine that begins October 1.  Choose from 37 of the best restaurants in Greater Fort Lauderdale in which to dine, as they offer specially-created, three-course menus at a $35 fixed price.  Now is your chance to discover new gems or to dine at your old favorites for a fabulous price.

On October 5, you can participate in – or just cheer on – the “Fight for Air” 5K run/walk in downtown Fort Lauderdale.  Families, individuals, and teams will join together to help the American Lung Association raise awareness and funds for the 35 million Americans who suffer from lung disease. This race is professionally timed and on a certified course, and participants may choose to run or simply walk the route and enjoy the riverfront and downtown scenery!  Come on out for more than just a morning workout; enjoy music, food, and family-friendly activities like a bounce house and more.  All registered participants will receive a complimentary Fight For Air Run/Walk Event T-Shirt.  The race begins at 7:30 on Saturday morning at Huizenga Plaza (32 E. Las Olas Boulevard) and is $25 if registered by September 30 ($35 day of race).

Also on October 5, the acclaimed Sarah Brightman will be performing at the BB&T Center in Sunrise (1 Panther Parkway).  The celebrated Broadway and International star – and one of the most famous Sopranos in the world – will be performing as part of her “Dreamchaser” World Tour in conjunction with the release of her latest album of the same name.  The album was written in the midst of her preparing for “the adventure of a lifetime” as a UNESCO Artist of Peace Ambassador and member of a 3-person team scheduled to spend 8 days aboard the International Space Station.  As a “classical crossover” artist, she is often credited with the creation of this popular genre and remains among its most prominent performers.  With worldwide sales of more than 30 million records, she has established herself as the world's best-selling soprano of all time.  Tickets for the 8pm show start at $68.

We hope you continue to check in with us each week as we share the exciting activities and events available in our community.  In addition, you can browse our Fort Lauderdale Real Estate listings anytime by visiting www.Gayleborden.com or contact Gayle Borden by calling 954-525-3355.

Located east of Federal Highway and north of Sunrise Blvd, this popular neighborhood is less than one mile to Fort Lauderdale Beach and, conveniently, just minutes from the Galleria & Coral Ridge Malls.  Its prime location allows residents to be within walking distance to an array of retail shops, and the many casual and fine dining destinations found along Federal Highway.

This small yet popular community on the north fork of the Middle River offers both waterfront homes with wide water views and fixed bridges to the ocean, and an array of dry lot homes, all situated on quiet residential streets and cul-de-sacs.

Though many of the homes in Bal Harbour were built in the 60s and 70s, a lot of them have been updated over the years in order to keep with the standards of the luxury Fort Lauderdale Real Estate market.  As many high-end homes in the area often do, upgraded homes in Bal Harbour often feature gourmet kitchens with granite counters and stainless steel appliances,  modern baths, marble and hardwood floors,  beautifully landscaped lots, and sparkling swimming pools.  Homes in Bal Harbour currently range in price from $700,000 to $1.2 million.

For more information on the beautiful community of Bal Harbour, or other fine Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods, contact Gayle Borden today by calling 954-525-3355, or send an email to gayle@gayleborden.com.

If art, music, and family fun are on your agenda for this week, look no further than our very own Fort Lauderdale!

On Saturday September 28, The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale (One E. Las Olas Blvd) will be participating in the Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Live!  Experience this amazing museum at no charge, with free admission courtesy of Smithsonian Magazine. All you need to participate is a “Museum Day Live” ticket (each ticket is valid for two guests) for which you can register on the Smithsonian Magazine website. The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale has over 83,000 sq ft with 29,000 sq ft devoted to exhibition space. It is home to a permanent collection of more than 6,000 works, including significant pieces by the American painter William Glackens, by the artists of the Northern European CoBrA Movement and by contemporary Cuban artists. There's always something new and different at the Museum, as well. Rotating exhibitions span time and genre - from the recent “Warhol and Cars: American Icons” and “Wari: Pre-Inca Lords of Peru” to “Foto Fort Lauderdale”, an exciting new series of high-caliber photographic exhibitions that give photography a permanent year-round home at the Museum.  This Saturday docent-led highlight tours will be offered at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., and the museum is open until 5:00 pm.

Also this weekend, from September 27th-29th, bring the kids to see Sesame Street Live “Can’t Stop Singing” at the Parker Playhouse (707 NE 8th Street).  When Elmo gets his furry fingers on Abby Cadabby's magic wand, there's something in the air - and Sesame Street becomes a nonstop, all-singing, all-dancing musical montage!  Join all of your favorite Sesame Street characters in learning why it feels good to sing a song, but why it feels good to stop, too!  Tickets start at $19.50, but the fun is priceless!

And finally, Music lovers can join legendary performers Brian Wilson and Jeff Beck as they kick off their co-headlining North American Tour at the Hard Rock Live (One Seminole Way, Hollywood) on Friday evening, September 27.  Wilson (co-founder of the Beach Boys) and Beck (of the Yardbirds) are two of the music industry's most celebrated entertainers, and will bring an evening of historic musical collaboration as they are joined on-stage by Wilson's former band mates Al Jardine and David Marks. Wilson is considered one of pop music's most deeply revered figures as the creative force behind some of the most beloved records ever.  The Beach Boys produced nine consecutive gold albums with such classics as "Surfer Girl”, "I Get Around", "Fun, Fun, Fun," "Help Me, Rhonda" and "California Girls”.  These are just a handful of the more than two-dozen Top 40 hits Brian Wilson co-wrote, arranged, produced and performed with the band. Jeff Beck is known as one of the most influential lead guitarists in rock, and was ranked among the top five in Rolling Stone's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time." He has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a member of the Yardbirds (1992) and as a solo artist (2009).  This amazing show will begin at 7:30 and tickets start at $49.

Point of Americas is one of the first luxury Fort Lauderdale condominiums to grace its ever changing skyline.  Comprised of two buildings and featuring five-star services and world-class amenities, it is perfectly situated on unrivaled beachfront between Port Everglades and the ocean.  No other luxury oceanfront complex in Fort Lauderdale benefits from such a stunning backdrop of cruise ships passing on their way to sea, creating remarkable vistas seen from the comfort of the residences.  Nestled within the exclusive Harbor Beach neighborhood, Point of Americas is secluded from public access, and offers residents an unparalleled tranquil environment with over 10 acres of beautiful landscape.  The private beach is considered one of the best in the city, enhanced both by its natural beauty and its sparse patronage.

From the moment residents of the Point of Americas step into the buildings, they are transported to a tropical paradise, free from the bustle of everyday life. They enjoy such high-end amenities as two large pools surrounded by plenty of lounge areas and cabanas, a jetty from which manta rays are often sighted, a picnic and barbeque area, various outdoor games such as shuffleboard and chess, a well-stocked private library equipped with wifi, state-of-the-art fitness centers with shower rooms and saunas, and a deluxe restaurant in Point I that offers room service and on-site catering. Residents can also take advantage of the hotel-style guest rooms that are available at considerably lower rates than many of the nearby hotels.  Round-the-clock security provides for a safe and comfortable environment.

Point of Americas, with its convenient Harbor Beach location, is within close proximity to Fort Lauderdale Beach, Downtown Fort Lauderdale and the Las Olas entertainment district, providing many nearby options for shopping, dining, and entertainment of all kinds.

This week in Fort Lauderdale promises many exciting, eclectic events filled with music, education, and fun; once again proving how our vibrant city is always offering something for everyone.

On September 18th, the legendary singer-songwriter Lionel Richie will be performing at the Hard Rock Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood) as part of his “All the Hits, All Night Long” fall tour.  The concert promises to be a spectacular show, featuring many of the former Commodore’s best known and much beloved solo hits, including “All Night Long”, “Truly”, “Hello”, and “Dancing on the Ceiling”.  Ultimate fans of the performer can choose from four VIP packages with a chance for a meet-and-greet with the star, enjoy front row tickets, and more. The show begins at 8:00pm and ticket prices start at $84.

Beginning September 20th, head out to Las Olas Boulevard and the Riverside Hotel to experience Las Olas Oktoberfest - an 11-day festival of beer, food, and music, celebrating the Oktoberfest tradition originating in Munich back in 1810.  Activities throughout the festival include live music, Schuhplattler (traditional German folk dancing), with a keg tapping ceremony to start it all off on September 20th.  You can enjoy lively contests for yodeling, bratwurst-eating, and beer stein-holding.  Also take advantage of the Party Cycle, which will be cruising along Las Olas, and partake in a raffle for great prizes.  The festival will take place both weekends, now through the 29th, admission is free, and food and drink are priced from $3-$17.

The latest IMAX documentary, “Rocky Mountain Express”, will premier this weekend at the AutoNation IMAX located at the Museum of Discovery and Science (401 SW 2 St).  This amazing film propels audiences on a steam train journey through the Canadian Rockies and relates the epic adventure of building the nation’s first transcontinental railway.  Weaving together spectacular IMAX aerial photography, breathtaking vistas of the west, archival photographs and maps, and the potent energy and rhythms of a live steam locomotive, the film will immerse you in an era of remarkable ingenuity and struggle, and a region highlighted by its stunning natural beauty.  On September 21st, from 12 pm to 4 pm, in conjunction with the opening of the film, the museum will host a number of train-themed activities for the family including a “Little Engine That Could” story time, build-your-own Marshmallow Train, create a train whistle from household items, and much, much more.  The film will continue to run through the end of May.
