While summer may be coming to an end in other parts of the world, things are still heating up here in Fort Lauderdale! The first week of October is packed with an array of exciting events featuring fine dining, charitable running, and brilliant musical performances, to name just a few!

Now in its 7th year, “Dine Out Lauderdale” is a six-week celebration of the area's top restaurants, chefs and cuisine that begins October 1. Choose from 37 of the best restaurants in Greater Fort Lauderdale in which to dine, as they offer specially-created, three-course menus at a $35 fixed price. Now is your chance to discover new gems or to dine at your old favorites for a fabulous price.

On October 5, you can participate in – or just cheer on – the “Fight for Air” 5K run/walk in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Families, individuals, and teams will join together to help the American Lung Association raise awareness and funds for the 35 million Americans who suffer from lung disease. This race is professionally timed and on a certified course, and participants may choose to run or simply walk the route and enjoy the riverfront and downtown scenery! Come on out for more than just a morning workout; enjoy music, food, and family-friendly activities like a bounce house and more. All registered participants will receive a complimentary Fight For Air Run/Walk Event T-Shirt. The race begins at 7:30 on Saturday morning at Huizenga Plaza (32 E. Las Olas Boulevard) and is $25 if registered by September 30 ($35 day of race).

Also on October 5, the acclaimed Sarah Brightman will be performing at the BB&T Center in Sunrise (1 Panther Parkway). The celebrated Broadway and International star – and one of the most famous Sopranos in the world – will be performing as part of her “Dreamchaser” World Tour in conjunction with the release of her latest album of the same name. The album was written in the midst of her preparing for “the adventure of a lifetime” as a UNESCO Artist of Peace Ambassador and member of a 3-person team scheduled to spend 8 days aboard the International Space Station. As a “classical crossover” artist, she is often credited with the creation of this popular genre and remains among its most prominent performers. With worldwide sales of more than 30 million records, she has established herself as the world's best-selling soprano of all time. Tickets for the 8pm show start at $68.
