Lauderdale Harbors is a quiet residential neighborhood in the southeast portion of Fort Lauderdale.  Located east of US1 and between Rio Vista to the north and the 17th Street Causeway to the south, its prime waterfront location allows residents quick access to the ocean both by land or by sea.  The only bridge between Lauderdale Harbors and the open water is the 17th Street Causeway, which is a soaring 55 feet high when closed.

While its waterfront properties with no fixed bridges are considered highly sought-after real estate, Lauderdale Harbors’ seclusion is also another perk for its residents. The neighborhood is set away from all major roads; with Cordova Road acting as the main thoroughfare in and through the area.  Most of the roads in Lauderdale Harbors see little traffic aside from that of its residents.

There are some magnificent homes in Lauderdale Harbors that line the Intracoastal.  In addition, there is a small portion of the neighborhood on the west side of Cordova Road known as Cliff Lake.  The Cliff Lake section is relatively small and is lined mainly by the thin lake of the same name that looks more like a canal, running along its western edge.  There are a variety of trees in this area that help create a beautiful canopy and give the section a very secluded feel.

Though the neighborhood is made up of mostly single family homes, there are a few developments of condos and townhomes.  One such newer, upscale development - which can be found in the heart of the neighborhood at the corner of Cordova and SE 12th Street - is known as Hemmingway Landings.  This beautiful upscale development is a great alternative for those who seek to be on deepwater without having to maintain a stand alone home.  At the east end of SE 12th Street is the historic LauderdaleYacht Club, an established member-owned and family-focused private club in operation since 1938.  Nestled between the quiet Lauderdale Harbors and the Intracoastal, it is a Club rich in tradition, with exceptional facilities and service, adding to the allure of this neighborhood as an ideal destination for boaters.

Lauderdale Harbors is also within walking distance to many shops and restaurants; most notably the Harbor Shops located at the southern end of Cordova Road on the 17th Street Causeway.  Currently, homes in this neighborhood range in price from $525,000 to just over $6 million. Looking for things to do?  There's something for everyone this week in Fort Lauderdale!  Check out a few of our choices here...

The much beloved and always fun KID Duck Fest Derby is back! Join the fun at Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale on Saturday, March 1, 2014.  The New River will once again be a sea of yellow as thousands of rubber ducks race during the 8th annual Duck Fest Derby to benefit Kids In Distress (KID). KID of Broward and Palm Beach Counties is a nationally accredited agency working for the prevention of child abuse, preservation of the family, and care and treatment of abused and neglected children. While waiting for the ducks to warm up for the race, parents can entertain their kids at the KID Duck Fest Derby Fun Zone with wacky activities including the KID Olympics, face painting, and carnival games. Community members can buy entries in the race by forming "Duck Teams" or adopting individual ducks for $5 each.

Join thousands of animal lovers on Saturday, March 1, 2014 for the 24th Annual Walk for the Animals in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The festivities will begin at Huizenga Plaza and the 1 mile walk will continue through downtown and along the New River. Walk for the Animals is the Humane Society of Broward County’s largest annual fundraiser.  It is because of the support from participants and sponsors that they are able to help thousands of homeless dogs, cats, kittens, puppies, bunnies, and more find their loving forever homes. Walk for the Animals is free to the public with no required registration fee. Instead, participants are encouraged to raise funds to support the shelter. The more money a Walker or Pack raises, the more goodies they get to pick up on Walk day!

Howard Alan Events proudly presents Part II of the 26th Annual Las Olas Art Fair. Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard is the ideal backdrop for this festival, blending an eclectic mix of artists, great weather and fantastic energy. As the second show of the season on Las Olas, this festival brings together longtime favorites with some of the newest names in the contemporary art scene. Life-size sculptures, spectacular paintings, one-of-a-kind jewels, photography, ceramics, and much more make for one fabulous weekend.  As always, this show is a must-see attraction in South Florida!

Right in the center of downtown Fort Lauderdale stands the impressive Watergarden Condo.  A 31-story modern masterpiece, set amidst fountains and tropical landscaping and rising above famed Las Olas Boulevard, the Watergarden truly sets the benchmark for luxury condo living in Fort Lauderdale.

Once inside the distinctive entry with its unique sculptures and fountains, the building features an elegantly appointed, two-story grand lobby with 24-hour reception desk, along with 5-star amenities like a beautiful clubroom with piano bar, wood-paneled library, multi-media room, business center with conference room, sports lounge with billiards and card tables, and a two-story state-of-the-art fitness center that includes group exercise classes, sauna and massage room. Outside, the nearly one-acre recreation deck is anchored by a resort-style pool with cabanas, and is surrounded by beautifully designed, formal Palm Beach-style gardens.  A separate pavilion includes an outdoor bar.

Within each of the 300+ units can be found details like large glass balconies; tiled kitchen, foyer, and laundry room; luxuriously carpeted bedrooms and living room; high-end Whirlpool appliances; impact windows and sliding doors; spacious closets; and individual alarm system.

As beautiful as the Watergarden’s architecture and designer finishes may be, this pet-friendly building could be just as popular for its location: just steps from Las Olas Boulevard.  The “Rodeo Drive” of Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas is well-known for its assortment of high-end boutiques, art galleries, and sidewalk cafes.  In addition, a short trip over the Las Olas Bridge means that Fort Lauderdale beach is just minutes away.

The waterfront community of Bay Colony can be counted among the most exclusive neighborhoods in Fort Lauderdale.  Nestled along the Intracoastal in the northern portion of Fort Lauderdale, this small grouping of peninsulas and canals is accessed where Bayview Drive meets East Cypress Creek Road (NE 62nd Street). With a 24-hour gated entry, the very private Bay Colony is home to magnificent waterfront properties and peaceful, tree-lined streets.

Though developed in the mid-20th century as a typical “suburban subdivision”, the older mid-century ranch-style homes in the neighborhood have slowly given way to newer larger construction with styles indicative of South Florida, ranging from Mediterranean-revival to tropical Florida Keys-style.  You’ll find grand rooms, spacious open floor plans, the latest technologies, impeccable landscaping, and all the modern perks and amenities that can be afforded.

A unique feature of Bay Colony real estate is that every home boasts a waterfront location without any fixed bridges to the open water.  Dockage starts at 100 feet, making this neighborhood the home port to some of the city’s most coveted vessels.  Additional amenities offered to residents here include the 24-hour manned guard gate with accompanying security patrol, convenient access to the beach less than a mile away, proximity to beautiful golf courses, tennis and yacht clubs, the area’s most elite private schools, and plenty of nearby opportunities for upscale dining and shopping.

With grand waterfront estates, secured access, and convenient location to everything Fort Lauderdale has to offer, real estate within the exclusive enclave of Bay Colony is always in demand.  To learn more about the homes in Bay Colony, or any other fine community in Fort Lauderdale, call Gayle Borden, Fort Lauderdale’s Leading Real Estate expert, at 954.525.3355.
