Supporters are encouraged to create a team and help change the lives of the thousands of people affected locally. Also on April 5, The Rotary Club of Fort Lauderdale will be hosting it's 3rd Annual New River Raft Race at Esplanade Park from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. The race will start and finish on the river in front of this beautiful park adjacent to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This year's theme is “Pirates of the River”, so rafts and crews will be decked out for the festivities in their finest pirate garb. Rafts are judged on a number of criteria including best finish, best design, most spirited and most pirate-like crew, among others. The fleet will paddle and splash on the river to compete for prizes awarded at the party in the park immediately following the race. Participants and spectators alike can enjoy food & drink, musical entertainment, crafts, and a kid’s area with bounce house and face painting. Racers can build their own rafts or purchase them pre-built from the sponsors at The Rotary Club. All Proceeds benefit Rotary’s 1090 Foundation that provides college scholarships for local students, international humanitarian aid and infrastructure projects.
