Looking for something to do this week in Fort Lauderdale?  With so many exciting events and happenings, it might be hard to decide!  Here are a few of our top picks:

The legendary Bruce Springsteen will mark his return to the BB&T Center (One Panther Parkway, Sunrise) on April 29, along with the E-Street Band.  Fresh from their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the multiple Grammy-award winning performers will combine songs from their latest studio album ‘High Hopes', with a selection of their greatest hits spanning the past 4 decades.  The show starts at 8:00pm.

Relive the iconic and magical moments from the Oscar-winning movie Ghost in a brand-new Broadway musical set to start a 2-week run on April 29 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW 5 Ave). Ghost: The Musical breathes glorious new life into a timeless love story. Featuring an original pop score from multiple Grammy Award-winners Dave Stewart (one half of the 80s pop duo the Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (co-writer of Alanis Morissette’s multi-platinum album Jagged Little Pill), the musical's tale of everlasting love is thrilling entertainment for audiences of all ages.  Showtimes vary and tickets range in price from $34.50 to $74.50.

On May 1, The Parker Playhouse (707 NE 8 Street) will host an evening with The Mavericks.  Defined as the "most interesting band in the world," this Grammy Award-winning group that hails locally from Miami will bring its unique blend of post-modern country, pop, rock, Latin and lounge music to the Parker Playhouse. The Mavericks' garage band ferocity, their intense live performances and deep love of both romance and pure country are led by Cuban-American Raul Malo, whose rich supple voice is often compared to that of Roy Orbison. After an eight year hiatus, this dynamic band has returned to perform at sold-out venues across the country. With its infectious energy and eclectic sound, The Mavericks perform new songs and classic hits including "Crying Shame," "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" and "Dance the Night Away." With multiple Vocal Group of the Year accolades, Country Music Awards, and a Grammy Award, this band has amassed a hit catalog that spans more than 20 years.  This boot stomping show will start at 8:00pm and tickets are $34.50-$54.50.

The 19th Annual Las Olas Wine and Food Festival presented by Premier Beverage Company will begin on May 2 (from 7:30-10:00pm) and go through the weekend.  Featuring food from more than 70 of South Florida’s most desirable dining destinations, paired with “Wines from the Around the World”, courtesy of Premier Beverage.  Attendees will also get to enjoy live musical entertainment throughout the weekend. This Fort Lauderdale tradition always guarantees to be a phenomenal event.

You can head down to Fort Lauderdale Beach on May 3 for the EVP® Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, taking place on the sand outside the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel (1140 Seabreeze Blvd/A1A).  The EVP® Beach Volleyball Tour's primary aim is to support beach volleyball events that engage families, fans, athletes, students, communities and sponsors in a great day at the beach. At each event, spectators will not only see elite athletes compete on the sand for top honors, they also have the chance to interact with the pros by participating in contests and promotions at the hosting venues. EVP® Tour events channel local resources and draw all participants together, benefiting the entire community.  Competition starts at 8:00am and admission to the event is just under $50.

On May 3, you can participate in the March of Dimes “March for Babies - Broward” event at Nova Southeastern University in Davie.  More than 7,000 Broward residents are expected to gather for this 3-mile stroll to benefit the March of Dimes and their work to prevent birth defects.  Anyone can sign up and create a team with their family, friends or colleagues at marchforbabies.org or by bringing their donations to the registration tent on the day of the walk. Music, food, and fun family activities will continue until 12:00 noon.  Admission is merely a donation to the cause, and the walk begins at 8:30am.

One of the most influential performers in the world, Lady Gaga is planning a stop on her “ArtPop” World Tour in South Florida at the BB&T Center (One Panther Parkway, Sunrise) on May 4. Gaga has appeared multiple times on Billboard magazine's Artists of the Year list (scoring the definitive title in 2010), ranked fourth in VH1's list of 100 Greatest Women in Music, is currently the fourth highest-selling digital singles artist in the US, is regularly placed on lists composed by Forbes magazine, including The World's 100 Most Powerful Women from 2010 to 2013, and has been named one of Time Magazine’s most influential people in the world.  You won’t want to miss this amazing performance by the multi-talented Lady Gaga.  The show starts at 8:00pm.

Located in the Southeast section of Fort Lauderdale Beach, the exclusive Harborage Isle (sometimes referred to as “The Harborage”) is one of only 2 guard-gated luxury communities in Fort Lauderdale.  Often considered one of the area’s most affluent neighborhoods, the 18 private homes that make up this exclusive tight-knit community, each offer deepwater dockage just off the Intracoastal Waterway, making it a desirable location for boaters and yachtsmen.

Harborage Isle is accessed by first entering the Harbor Beach area of Fort Lauderdale, and continuing to the manned guard gate located at its sole entry point on Harborage Drive.  Once past the gate you will find a collection of some of the most expensive and luxurious homes in all of Florida’s Gold Coast.  Most homes were built between the mid-1980s and now, with those built earlier having gone through major overhauls to update them for 21st Century living.  The homes are stylishly decorated and offer all of the most up-to-the-minute luxuries and amenities that one would expect to find in estate homes of their caliber.

Because of its location, Harborage Isle is quite popular among buyers looking for this kind of high-end waterfront living.  All 18 residences are situated on waterfront lots and offer direct access to the Intracoastal, as well as the open waters of the Atlantic via the 17th Street Bridge. Because this area features deep water, these properties are ideal for docking mega yachts, with some homes even offering space for multiple vessels.

Although it is somewhat removed from the excitement of the city, Harborage Isle is merely a short drive over the 17th Street Causeway to the city, and the high-end shops, galleries, and restaurants of beautiful tree-lined Las Olas Boulevard, and is less than .25 mile from the sands of famed Fort Lauderdale Beach.  There is also convenient access to airports, I-95 and the Port Everglades cruise ships.

Homes in Harborage Isles are currently available for sale starting at $4 million.  This neighborhood is also home to the most expensive listing on the market right now in Fort Lauderdale: 5 Harborage Isle Drive, a 17,000 square foot, 6 bedroom/7+ bath residence on a 60,000 square foot corner lot, offered for $32 million.  For more information on this and other premier Fort Lauderdale communities, visit the "Neighborhoods" section of our website.  You can also call 954-525-3355 to speak with Gayle Borden, Fort Lauderdale Real Estate specialist.

What do your plans include this week?  How about a soulful concert at the beautiful Broward Center for the Performing Arts; a food and wine festival to perk up the palate;   or a “rockin” good time at an intimate venue in an exciting nighttime hotspot.  These are just a few of our favorite things happening this week in Fort Lauderdale!

Don't miss R&B sensation John Legend perform at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW 5 Ave) on April 22.  The 9-time Grammy Award-winning artist takes R&B/soul to the next level, creating an immersive experience about romance, love, hope, commitment and optimism. Music industry pioneer Quincy Jones has called Legend simply "a genius." Named one of Time magazine's “100 Most Influential People” and one of the music industry's most innovative artists, Legend returned to the studio after five years to record his much-anticipated 4th solo album entitled Love in the Future, a “rich, melodic soundscape that fully integrates the musician's gospel and pop influences, classical training and unerring hip-hop and soul sensibilities”.  The show starts at 8:00pm and tickets can be purchased for $40-$120.

Meet & mingle among the best chefs in South Florida at the 4th Annual Deerfield Beach Wine & Food Festival on April 25th & 26th at Quiet Waters Park (401 S. Powerline Road, Deerfield Beach). Friday night kicks-off the festivities with the Vineyard Party from 7 PM to 10 PM, featuring a gourmet food tasting, along with wine, craft beer, cooking demonstrations and live entertainment. Saturday top chefs from the tri-county area gather for the Grand Tasting from 6 PM to 10 PM. This is the time for you to dine on fine local cuisine, drink fine wines and experience a festival like no other!  Admission starts at $45 with additional charge for admission to various VIP events.

Rock out with Rob Thomas at the Hard Rock Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood) on April 26.  The Grammy-winning songwriter and singer - and former frontman for the popular band Matchbox 20 – will take the stage at 8:00pm.  He is sure to perform many songs from his lengthy catalogue, including the hits “Lonely No More”, “Ever the Same”, and “No Diamonds”.

As Fort Lauderdale developments continue to grow and improve on the features they offer, buyers sometimes seek an option that is simpler, quieter and more comfortable.  Sunrise East Condo fulfills this need by being a refreshing contrast to some of its neighboring buildings.  With just 93 units, and situated at the end of a quiet street off of A1A, this condo can often feel like its a world away from other more metropolitan developments.

Though originally built in 1970, an extensive renovation in 2005 has made Sunrise East virtually new again.  Residents of this 20-story condo that sits along the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway, now have the benefit of a 3-story parking garage, a heated rooftop swimming pool, fitness center, sauna and a lounge equipped with a kitchen perfect for entertaining. Other great features of Sunrise East Condominium include semi-private elevator lobbies, servicing just two units per floor.

Residences at Sunrise East feature spacious floor plans of 1,000 to 2,220 square feet. Many units boast stylish upgrades like hardwood or marble floors, granite counters, marble baths, and more.

The building’s attractive location on the water means residents can relax at home, while enjoying stunning Intracoastal, city, and even ocean views.  In addition, it’s just a short trip to the upscale dining and shopping at the Galleria Mall, and of course, just a stone’s throw to the beautiful beaches of Fort Lauderdale.

Tucked away in Fort Lauderdale’s exclusive Harbor Beach neighborhood, along the Port Everglades Inlet, sits Everglades House, an 18-story condominium built in 1965. Because of its amazing location, residents here can enjoy sweeping ocean views, as well as impressive views of Port Everglades – one of the busiest cruise ship ports in the world.

Great emphasis was put on the placement of the building and the location of each apartment suite within the building. Interiors were designed to extend from front to back to ensure that all residences command a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean, the inlet to the Southeast, and the city lights to the Northwest.  The unique semi-circle design also captures the Southeast trade breezes and the open walkways on the west side allow the breeze to flow through the units.

A 2-story lobby was built with a grand circular staircase leading to the 2nd floor recreation lounge and fitness center.  Additional outside resort-style amenities include a beautiful new deck with heated pool, BBQ area, sauna/spa, and shuffleboard, all amidst beautiful tropical landscaping with waterfalls.  Residents are also offered assigned covered parking, 24-hr security, and privileges to the private beach located along the Harbor Beach peninsula.

The 160 residences in the building are comprised of 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom units. Though some still maintain some original, vintage qualities, many have been updated over the years with the aesthetic upgrades buyers are accustomed to finding among oceanfront buildings in Fort Lauderdale.

For more information on the Everglades House and other superb Fort Lauderdale Condos, contact the Gayle Borden Group at 954-525-3355.  Gayle Borden is a leading expert on Fort Lauderdale Real Estate, and is available to assist with all of your real estate needs.

Wonderful performances abound this week in Fort Lauderdale!  From the Broward Center to the Parker Playhouse to the sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach; whether your interests lie in the theater, classic opera, country, pop, or rock, there is so much to do, see, and hear!

Check out a few of our suggestions…

On April 10, experience Florida Grand Opera’s performance of Tosca, Puccini’s poignant opera featuring star-crossed lovers, a sadistic villain and suicide. Set in Rome during the Napoleonic period, the tragic tale of Tosca’s love for the painter Cavaradossi and their implication in revolutionary activities through the machinations of the wicked police chief Scarpia features some of opera’s most tender arias. Listen for “Recondita Armonia,” “Vissi D’Arte” and “E Lucevan le Stele.” The stunning production at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW 5th Ave) will be performed in its original Italian with projected English subtitles, and accompanied by a live orchestra.  The show begins at 7:30, with tickets starting at just $21.

April 11-12, The Parker Playhouse (707 NE 8th Street) is hosting performances of C.S. Lewis' brilliant novel The Screwtape Letters, a story revealing spiritual warfare from a demon's point of view. A sold-out hit in New York, Chicago, Boston, Dallas and Washington, D.C., this funny, provocative, and wickedly witty theatrical adaptation, directed by Max McLean, will change the way you think about how demons influence your everyday life. The performance includes after-show talkback about the play with director Max McLean. The performance is appropriate for ages 13 and up.  Admission prices range from $29-$69 and showtimes vary.

Back by popular demand, Rock the Ocean's Tortuga Music Festival returns to Fort Lauderdale Beach on April 12-13, with headliners Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Train, Sheryl Crow, Ziggy Marley, and others performing in this three-stage lineup of country, pop, rock, reggae, funk and folk artists. The sands of Fort Lauderdale Beach will be turned into oceanfront festival grounds for the 2nd annual Oceanside event, making the Tortuga Festival a music and ocean lover's paradise. Fans will enjoy music performances with the sun and stars above, an ocean breeze in the air, and sand beneath their feet. Local culinary fair, sustainable seafood as well as traditional festival favorites will be served.  A 2-day pass for all of the music is $165 and the party starts at 11:00am both days.
