Looking for something fun to do this week? We’re not just sun and sand here in Fort Lauderdale, there is so much more to do! Music, film, ballet, family fun, there are many things from which to choose. Here are a few things happening this week:

On October 2, the legendary rock-blues band Chicago will take the stage to perform all of their American rock classics at The Hard Rock Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood). Hear them play some of their biggest hits like “25 or 6 to 4”, “So Hard to Say I’m Sorry”, “You’re the Inspiration”, “Hard Habit to Break”, “Saturday in the Park” and many, many, more. Tickets start at $40, which includes a $1 donation towards Chicago's charity. The show begins at 8:00pm.

Also on October 2, The Museum of Art/Fort Lauderdale (One E. Las Olas Blvd.) will be presenting the Oscar-nominated film “The Color Purple”. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Alice Walker, The Color Purple spans the years 1909 to 1949, relating the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), a Southern black woman virtually sold into a life of servitude to her brutal husband, sharecropper Albert (Danny Glover). Admission is $10/person, which includes admission to the museum, and is free for members and NSU students and faculty. Showtimes are 11:15, 3:00, and 6:00. The film’s running time is154 minutes, and is Rated R. The museum requests that you please RSVP to moareservations@moafl.org.

October 3-5, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts (201 SW 5th Ave) presents “Sesame Street Live – Make a New Friend!” No matter where you're from or where you've been, everyone is special - so join in! Elmo, Grover, Abby Cadabby, and their Sesame Street friends welcome Chamki, Grover's friend from India, to Sesame Street. Together, they explore the universal fun of friendship and celebrate cultural similarities, from singing and dancing, to sharing cookies! Join the fun and make a memory with your friends and family! Showtimes vary, and tickets range from $11 to $36.

October 3 – October 4, the Florida Grand Ballet Theater will present "An Evening at the Ballet". This annual gala performance will open the winter season, and features a sneak peek at upcoming new works. See the artists as they are showcased in classical pas de deux and new contemporary divertissement. Performances will be held in the Amaturo Theater of the Broward Center for the Performing Arts at 2:00pm and 8:00pm. Tickets are on sale for $35 and $45.


Though the South Florida temps in September & October may not always feel like Fall, you can still get into the spirit of the season by joining the Flamingo Road Nursery & Farmers Market (1655 S. Flamingo Road, Davie) for their 2014 “Fall Harvest Festival” now through November 2! Choose from the biggest and best pumpkins in the area. Other activities include: Pumpkin picking, Pumpkin and pot painting, photo ops with “Tow Mater” and “Herbie the Love Bug”, a Corn Kids Maze, authentic southern BBQ, live music and hayrides. Flamingo Road Nursery has premium fresh local produce, homegrown local honey, baked pies, jams and jellies, as well as Carmel apples, cider and popcorn. Everything you need to celebrate the fall!

And on October 5, legendary British rock guitarist Peter Frampton, will take the stage at the Hard Rick Live (1 Seminole Way, Hollywood). Best known for his live release “Frampton Comes Alive!”, which sold more than 6 million copies in the US alone and spawned several hits hits, his career has successfully spanned 4 decades and culminated in his recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Tickets start at $49 and the show begins at 7:00pm.
