Ghost: The Musical breathes glorious new life into a timeless love story. On May 1, The Parker Playhouse (707 NE 8 Street) will host an evening with The Mavericks. Defined as the "most interesting band in the world," this Grammy Award-winning group that hails locally from Miami will bring its unique blend of post-modern country, pop, rock, Latin and lounge music to the Parker Playhouse. The Mavericks' garage band ferocity, their intense live performances and deep love of both romance and pure country are led by Cuban-American Raul Malo, whose rich supple voice is often compared to that of Roy Orbison. After an eight year hiatus, this dynamic band has returned to perform at sold-out venues across the country. With its infectious energy and eclectic sound, The Mavericks perform new songs and classic hits including "Crying Shame," "All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down" and "Dance the Night Away." With multiple Vocal Group of the Year accolades, Country Music Awards, and a Grammy Award, this band has amassed a hit catalog that spans more than 20 years. The 19th Annual Las Olas Wine and Food Festival presented by Premier Beverage Company will begin on May 2 (from 7:30-10:00pm) and go through the weekend. Featuring food from more than 70 of South Florida’s most desirable dining destinations, paired with “Wines from the Around the World”, courtesy of Premier Beverage. Attendees will also get to enjoy live musical entertainment throughout the weekend. This Fort Lauderdale tradition always guarantees to be a phenomenal event.

You can head down to Fort Lauderdale Beach on May 3 for the EVP® Pro Beach Volleyball Tour, taking place on the sand outside the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel (1140 Seabreeze Blvd/A1A). The EVP® Beach Volleyball Tour's primary aim is to support beach volleyball events that engage families, fans, athletes, students, communities and sponsors in a great day at the beach. At each event, spectators will not only see elite athletes compete on the sand for top honors, they also have the chance to interact with the pros by participating in contests and promotions at the hosting venues. EVP® Tour events channel local resources and draw all participants together, benefiting the entire community. Competition starts at 8:00am and admission to the event is just under $50.

On May 3, you can participate in the March of Dimes “March for Babies - Broward” event at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. More than 7,000 Broward residents are expected to gather for this 3-mile stroll to benefit the March of Dimes and their work to prevent birth defects. Anyone can sign up and create a team with their family, friends or colleagues at marchforbabies.org or by bringing their donations to the registration tent on the day of the walk. Music, food, and fun family activities will continue until 12:00 noon. Admission is merely a donation to the cause, and the walk begins at 8:30am.

One of the most influential performers in the world, Lady Gaga is planning a stop on her “ArtPop” World Tour in South Florida at the BB&T Center (One Panther Parkway, Sunrise) on May 4.
